Modified M-TEC Agar 500 G
Modified mTEC Agar is a solid medium intended for the chromogenic detection and enumeration of Escherichia coli in water by the membrane filtration technique. This product conforms to USEPA Approve Method 1603. Peptone and Yeast Extract supply amino acids, peptides, carbohydrates, vitamins, and electrolytes. Lactose is the fermentable carbohydrate. Potassium Phosphates act as buffering agents. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Desoxycholate suppress the growth of Gram-positive bacteria. The chromogen 5-bromo-6-chloro-3-indolyl-β-D-glucuronide is converted to a red-magenta pigment by the enzyme β-D-glucuronidase encoded in the E. coli genome. Agar is the gelifying agent.
